Open Positions
We offer bachelor, master and phd thesis projects in all areas of expertise
of the group including
- Ultracold Rydberg atoms and molecules
- Confined quantum scattering
- Out of equilibrium and strongly correlated quantum dynamics of mixtures of ultracold atoms
- Nonlinear excitations of Bose-Einstein condensates
- Formation processes of ultracold molecules
- Driven billiards and lattices
Specifically we are currently accepting students for bachelor and master projects to join our team on the build-up of a quantum computer. This happens in the framework of the BMBF project RYMAX (supporting programme quantum technolgies: from the foundations to the market) and offers many possibilities to contribute to e.g. the development of hybrid classical quantum algorithms, the controlled engineering of many-body Rydberg states and the generation of entanglement as a resource for quantum computation. In case you are interested please contact us to get further information and discuss possible thesis projects.
PhD position in ultracold atomic physics
The theory group on 'Fundamental Processes in Quantum Physics' at the Center for Optical Quantum Technologies of the University of Hamburg announces a PhD position in theoretical physics.
Quantum many-body physics with ultracold bosonic systems is at the focus of current experimental and theoretical research. Understanding the dynamical response of such correlated systems to external perturbations represents an intriguing perspective in the field. In this project the PhD student will explore the nonequilibrium quantum dynamics of ultracold ensembles such as Bose-Bose mixtures or hybrid atomic systems like atom-ions which are relevant to the research carried out within the cluster of excellence ‘The Hamburg Centre for Ultrafast Imaging’. The goal of the doctoral training is to gain a deep understanding of the dynamics of such quantum systems with the aim of engineering novel states of quantum matter by means of state-of-the-art numerical methods.
We are looking for strongly motivated and highly skilled students who share the excitement of doing theoretical research.
To apply, please send a CV (including the names of 2 potential references) with a cover letter to pschmelc@physnet.uni-hamburg.de Salaries are paid according to the German standards TVoeD EG 13/2 (PhD).
Recruitment will continue until the position is filled.
