Dr. César Cabrera Córdova, an experimental physicist at the University of Hamburg, has been awarded a prestigious Starting Grant from the European Research Council, receiving €1.9 million to uncover the fundamental mechanisms behind superconductivity and open new pathways toward future quantum technologies.

With great sadness we have learned of the passing of our highly esteemed emeritus professor, Prof. Dr. Herwig Schopper. He passed away on August 19, 2025, at the age of 101 in Hamburg.
Herwig Schopper, born on February 24, 1924, in Landskron (Czechoslovakia), was an outstanding figure in German and international physics.

This July, the Hamburg International Summer School “Particles, Strings and Cosmology” brought 27 students from 11 different countries to Hamburg. In two weeks’ time, they had the opportunity to get to know the University of Hamburg’s Cluster of Excellence Quantum Universe and the Campus Bahrenfeld.
