Shortly after the 2D MOT we trap atoms again int the 3D MOT. We now use diagonal beams inclined by 59 degrees with only 8mm diameter - signififcantly steeper and smalller than in our old setup. We operate our 3D MOT exclusively on a broadened intercombination 1S0 -3P1 transition and achieve loading rates of around 5 million atoms per second.
