After extensive rebuild of the main experiment and the cooling laser systems we have found the 2D magneto-optical trap (MOT) again!
The first step in all our future quantum-computing runs will be to cool and trap atoms in a vertical 2D MOT. This is operated on the broad 1S0 - 1P1 transition, enabling us to capture a large number of atoms. Next, atoms fall down into and are captured by the 3D MOT, which we are currently preparing.
