Evolution of the homogeneity of an optical tweezer array as a function of the number of GSA iterations

We have successfully implemented a modified Gerchberg-Saxton algorithm for fast high-fidelity optimization and homogenization of optical tweezer arrays generated by a phase-only spatial light modulator. More details can be found in the Bachelor thesis of Timo Eikelmann.

Single Fermionic Yb atoms in optical tweezers

After successful optimization of trapping and imaging of individual bosonic 174Yb atoms we have now succeeded in trapping fermionic 173Yb atoms in triple (1S0, 3P0, 3P1) magic optical tweezers at 759nm using the magic angle for the polarization of the tweezer light.

First single Yb atoms in optical tweezers in Hamburg!

For the first time we have loaded individual 174Yb atoms in a small tweezer array at a wavelength of 532nm. Atoms are imaged on the 1S0 -3P1 transition.
