Guenter Huber, born 1947 in Ludwigsburg/Germany, received his Ph.D. degree in physics from the University of Stuttgart/Germany (1975). He was research staff member of the Max-Planck-Institute/Stuttgart/Germany, of the Institute of Applied Physics of Hamburg University, and became Professor of Physics at Hamburg University in 1982. In 1986/1987 he was guest Professor at Ginzton Lab., Stanford University, USA. He became Director of the newly established Institute of Laser Physics (1991), Vize Dean (2000), and Dean of the Faculty of Physics at Hamburg University (2003-2006). Since 2008 he is board member of the University Council of Hamburg University.
Guenter Huber is Fellow of the Optical Society of America, he received the Quantum Electronics and Optics Prize of the European Physical Society in 2003.
