The physics library is a reference and loan library. All books can be borrowed for 4 weeks. Use your user account online to extend copies from the textbook collection (marked with an “A” on the spine) yourself (3 times for 4 weeks each).
Regulations for the Use of the Department of Physics Library
The Department of Physics library is a public academic library for research, teaching, and studies as well as for other academic work, continuing education, and information.
We locate, procure, make available, and maintain media to support the work in the Department of Physics.
The library is a reference library with a limited loan inventory.

Loan periods and expiry dates
Find “A” textbooks in our textbook collection. The library loans these for 4 weeks. Users can extend loans 3 times for a period of 4 weeks per extension. They can do this themselves via their user account.
A fourth and final extension can be applied for directly at the library loan desk.
Borrowing items over the weekend:
From 2 pm on Friday to 10:30 am on Monday, cannot be extended
Overnight:
From 4 pm to 10:30 am the following day, cannot be extended
Staff loans:

Late fees
If you return books late, the library charges €1 per book per week (from the beginning of the week in question).
As of the second late week, the fees are calculated as follows:
- 1 week = €1 per late return
- 2 weeks = €1 + €2
- 3 weeks = €1 + €5
- As of 5 weeks = €1 + €10 (maximum: €18 per late return)
If a book is never returned and/or lost, the user needs to pay the costs of replacement and an administrative fee of €20.
Fees cannot be paid in cash at the libraries but rather with a girocard or a stored-value card (GeldKarte).
Alternatively, you can pay in cash. The receipt must subsequently be submitted to the library as proof:

Library card
Use the online library card registration form on the home page.
You can pick up the library card at the reception desk or at all libraries in the Hamburg library system. Bring a photo ID (identity card or passport), registration certificate, and, if applicable, your student ID.
The library card is valid for all specialist and departmental libraries of Universität Hamburg and the State and University Library Carl von Ossietzky. You can have the Hamburg University of Technology annotate on your library card that you are permitted to lend from its library.
