Good teaching is a central concern of the department and is characterised by intensive, continuous evaluation and improvement processes. The department is characterised by a low level of fragmentation in its degree programmes, as well as by a rock-solid and broad Bachelor's programme of classical design, which can also be studied in a standard period of study by moderately streamlining the curricula. This is complemented by a research-oriented Master's programme, with a particularly broad range of courses and great freedom of choice. The proximity of teaching to research is particularly important to the department and is additionally promoted by the involvement of scientists from non-university research institutions.
