Absorption images of the bosonic cloud without (a) and with fermions (b) for three different depths of the lattice. The phase transition from the superfluid regime to the Mott-insulator is seen and shifted through the existence of the fermionic component.
A huge shift not explainable by mean-field attraction was found in the superfluid-to-Mott-transition of the bosonic component induced by the added fermionic component! This leads to several interesting scenarios of localization. How the experiment was realized, parameters and explanations are in Phys. Rev. Lett. 96, 180403 (2006).
