BEC in our Science-Cell

We have achieved our first molecular Li6 condensate! The density plots (click on the image) show condensates with up to 200×103 6Li atoms released from a 1064nm dipole trap. Lowering the final power of the laser beam leads to less and less pronounced fractions of thermal atoms in the wings of the condensed core. We are happy to have found a really annoying micro-leak in the process of making the BEC.
