Quantum correlations between light and the kilogram-mass mirrors of LIGO

Our observations at the GW observatory LIGO show that the quantum uncertainty of intense laser light affects the quantum uncertainty of 40 kg mirrors, resulting in correlated quantum uncertainties.

Machine learning ("artificial intellegence") improves experiment

Seismic disturbances are a problem in many physical experiments, including gravitational wave observatories. We were able to build an artificial neural network that has learnt from past disturbances and is better able to recognise similar acute disturbances.
