Next Success for LIGO / Virgo
16 October 2017
Groundbreaking success for LIGO/Virgo and the field of gravitational wave astronomy:
For the first time it was possible to witness gravitational waves of the event when two neutron stars merged, simultaneously with a gamma-ray burst recorded by the Fermi satellite. Through quick localisation of the source more than 70 observatories were able to conduct studies of electromagnetic signals (Kilo nova) and gain a plethora of new information.
