My research focus is the elimination of nuclear weapon programs. We cover aspects starting from the prevention of nuclear war and effects of nuclear weapons, over the control of nuclear weapon-related fissile material and the verification of nuclear weapon dismantlement to the mitigation of the legacy of nuclear weapons. I combine applied nuclear physics with insights from other disciplines, to achieve policy-relevant results that should particularly enable non-nuclear weapon states to participate effectively in nuclear arms control, non-proliferation and disarmament efforts.
Technical research interests include
- gamma spectroscopy, gamma-gamma coincidence
- neutron detection, including active neutron interrogation
- muography (transmission measurments) and muon-neutron coincidence measurements
- radiation dose rate measurements
- monte carlo particle transport simulations
- virtual reality demonstrations and experiments
