Electronic correlation in nonlinear processes

In project A3 the electronic and nuclear dynamics following a localized core excitation will be investigated. We will focus on the migration of charge and energy through molecules with conjugated electron system (common target in area A) such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon molecules. Aim is together with A1, A2 and A7 a fundamental understanding on how electronic excitations and correlated states evolve in time. We will take advantage of the highly intense and ultra-short radiation pulses of free electron lasers, which are offering a unique way to excite and probe molecules at two different specific sites.
