Observational Astronomy
The Observational Astronomy group led by Jochen Liske conducts research on a range of topics in extragalactic astrophysics, focussing in particular on the areas of galaxy formation and cosmology, and using data from a large variety of ground-based and spaceborne observatories. The group is also involved in the development of new astronomical instruments. For the most part we work in the context of large international collaborations, and the group is part of the Quantum Universe Cluster if Excellence.
J. Liske teaches both introductory and advanced courses in astrophysics, and he is never short of ideas for Bachelor and Master thesis projects.
When not engaged in research, teaching, supervising students, managing large collaborations or committee work, we try to convince the rest of the world that science, and astronomy in particular, is the greatest adventure of all.
