About us
The Hamburg Observatory is a research institution opened in 1912, predating the foundation of the Hamburg University, with historical roots reaching even further into the early 1800s.
Today, it is part of the university's physics department. The modern observatory blends state-of-the-art research with charming, park-like premises open to the public. Current research touches on basically all branches of astrophysics, ranging from cosmology over dynamics of galaxies and gravity waves to stars and extrasolar planets.
