Blue Large-Amplitude Pulsators: A Decade of Discovery
Blue Large-Amplitude Pulsators (BLAPs) are a new class of variable stars first identified in 2017, characterized by brightness variations of up to 40% with periods typically on the order of tens of minutes. As hot, evolved stars located on the Hertzsprung–Russell diagram above the sdB population, they cannot be easily accommodated within any previously established class of hot subdwarfs . Since their discovery several formation scenarios have been proposed, with binary interactions playing a central role in all of them. In this presentation, I will review the observational history of BLAPs and discuss recent discoveries that have substantially increased the number of known members of this class. I will also highlight some of the most intriguing objects and summarize the current state of research on these enigmatic stars.
