In project C4 we will load fermionic quantum gases into optical lattices and super-lattices to realize integrable one-dimensional systems, the Fermi-Hubbard model and coupled double wells, making the connection to central topics of condensed matter physics. We will perform time resolved measurements of density and spin fluctuations on the length scale of the inter-atomic separation. By dynamically changing the system parameters we will investigate questions such as: How long will oscillations of observables like the double occupancy persist after a quench? Which processes and timescales govern the dynamics of correlations? How does the thermalisation depend on the vicinity to an integrable or quantum critical point?
