SFB Conference and Summer School 2016 in Hohwacht
From 19. until 22. September the yearly SFB 925 Conference and Summer School took place in Hohwacht, near the Baltic sea. A total of 50 PhD-students, young researchers and professors came together to present their newest research highlights, discuss new ideas, deepen and trigger new projects and collaborations within the Sonderforschungsbereich 925.
The conference started with a 1 1/2 day PhD-only Summer School. In advance the PhD-students planned and organized these 1 1/2 days in respect of their interests and needs. Besides several talks, which presented the different areas within the SFB the PhD-students focussed on open discussion rounds to different research fields such as optical lattices in ultracold quantum gases, numerical computing methods and technical details e.g. on precise frequency stabilisation.
Furthermore a phd-only poster session allowd the young reasarchers to get an inside-look on what other phds are doing in there daily work and research groups. Especially in regard to the areas A, B and C this has been a great opportunity to see joint fields and complemantary ideas as well as similiar open questions and challenges.
Following the PhD summer school all members of the SFB came together for the yearly conference. Besides the presentation of new research highlights within the different research groups the conference focussed on the collaborations and joint works between groups within the SFB. The program offered many opportunities for joining discussions offering room and time to discuss new ideas.
Furthermore well known invited speakers such as Martin Aeschlimann, Ulrich Schneider and Eugene Demler attended the conference and gave talks on their personal research topics which have a close connection to the research topics in the SFB 925.
Accompanied with beautiful weather and a perfect surrounding in Hohwacht the conference offered a perfect framework for a successful and inspiring conference.
