About the library
The library of Hamburg Observatory has been existing since the foundation of the observatory in 1833. Today, the inventory embraces 70.000 tomes approximately. The library, which is one of the most beautiful libraries in Hamburg, is located in the historical main room and three other rooms in the main building.
Here you can find current literature on astronomy/astrophysics - books, magazines or online offerings, which can be researched in the online catalogue of the university. The older inventory of the
library is being kept separately. The most valuable historical editions include Tycho Brahes "Astronomia Instauratae Mechanica" (1602) or Johannes Keplers "Tabulae Rudolphinae" (1627).
The library is open to the public. Normally we do not lend any books.
