In the wake of the biodiversity project in the observatory park, a large shrub bed was built in front of the main building during the last weekend of October. Almost 500 shrubs of 33 different species were added to the ecosystem of our park, hopefully offering food to a wide range of wild bees, other insects and moths during day and night from February to November through the future years. The nocturnal moths are badly needed by the endangered species of bats, living in our unlighted park.
Old and sick conifers were removed, opening now view to the whole facade of the main building.
Almost 20 people, mostly students from the UHH biodiversity lab, but also neighbors and friends helped this major action become true. The whole project is financially supported by the foundation Deutsche Wildtier Stiftung.
