How to Find us

Our institute is on the Hamburg DESY campus, which has two entrances. Our postal address belongs to the side entrance of DESY (Luruper Chaussee 149). Building number 67 is close to that entrance. Most of our offices are however in builing 2a, which can best be reached from the main entrance (Notkestraße 85).

Reach the Main Entrance

By plane

From the Hamburg airport "Helmut Schmidt" you can take the

• Taxi: Travelling time: Approx. 40 – 50 minutes. Cost: Approx. 30 Euro.
• S-Bahn + Bus: From the airport take S-Bahn line S1 or S11 to OTHMARSCHEN. In Othmarschen, leave the station via the escalator exit (at the east side of the station) and take Metrobus 1 (direction Schenefelder Holt, Blankenese, Sieversstücken, or Rissen) to the bus stop "Zum Hühnengrab (DESY)". Total travelling time: Approx. 1.5 hours. Buy an "Einzelkarte Hamburg AB" ticket directly at the airport.

By train

Leave the train at HAMBURG-ALTONA. This is the second stop after Hauptbahnhof (Main Station) in case you arrive from the south or east. Then you can reach DESY by

• Taxi: Travelling time: Apporox. 15 – 20 minutes. Cost: Approx. 15 Euro.
• Bus: Metrobus 1 (direction Schenefelder Holt, Blankenese, Sieversstücken, or Rissen) directly to DESY. The bus stop is called „Zum Hühnengrab (DESY)“. Travelling time: Approx. 25 minutes. Buy an „Einzelkarte Hamburg AB“ ticket at Altona train station.
• S-Bahn + Bus: S-Bahn line S1 or S11 (direction Blankenese/Wedel) to OTHMARSCHEN, then leave the station via the escalator exit (at the east side of the station) and take Metrobus 1 (direction Schenefelder Holt, Blankenese, Sieversstücken, or Rissen) to the bus stop „Zum Hühnengrab (DESY)“. Total travelling time: Approx. 20 minutes. Buy an „Einzelkarte Hamburg AB“ ticket at Altona train station.

By car

Leave the Autobahn A7 at HH-BAHRENFELD junction.

• If you arrive in Hamburg from the SOUTH, turn immediately LEFT onto the main road.
• If you arrive in Hamburg from the NORTH, turn immediately RIGHT onto the main road.

After about 1.7 km turn RIGHT onto Notkestraße (DESY is signposted there). The DESY entrance is the second street on the left.

Reach the Side Entrance

If you want to reach the side entrance at Luruper Hauptstraße, it is most convenient to take Metrobus 2 from ALTONA (direction Schenefeld) to the bus stop „Luruper Chaussee (DESY)“. It takes only about 15 minutes. If you are arriving by plane, take S-Bahn line S1 or S11 from the airport as described above and leave at ALTONA.
