Nanoscience

Nanoscience is the combination of physics, chemistry, and biology on the nanoscale.

We are working at the Center for Hybrid Nanostructures (www.CHyN.de) of the Universität Hamburg. We are located on the Science Campus in Hamburg-Bahrenfeld as direct neighbors of DESY, the German Electron Synchrotron.

Materials

Our main focus here is on atomic-layer-deposition (ALD) for growing and over-growing a whole variety of materials. In addition we are working closely with the molecular-beam-epitaxy (MBE) group of Prof. Hansen and Dr. Heyn, focusing on the growth of GaAs- and GaN-heterostructures.

Nanostructuring

Nanostructuring is our core expertise. We are making use of advanced electron-beam-lithography, which enables us to define 8nm features on 6’’-wafers. This we can combine with state-of-the-art focused-ion-beam (FIB) nano-lithography, several electron-beam-microscopes, and a brand new clean room all in one research building (www.CHyN.de).

Applications

One of the true benchmarks of groundbreaking scientific discoveries is their application. Our team is devoted to basic research as well as testing the potential of nano-devices for real-world applications.
