CMS detector upgrade projects
Our group is strongly involved in two phases of the CMS detector upgrade.
The phase II upgrade is foreseen around 2027. Our focus lies on the upgrade of the full CMS tracking detector. Our group is a member of the Central European Consortium (CEC), which is an R&D project within CMS for the development of radiation hard silicon sensor modules for the high luminosity phase of the Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC).
Our research is focussed on systematically studying different silicon wafer materials, thicknesses and production technologies with the aim to identify a technology suited for the inner tracker of CMS for the HL-LHC. After having decided on the wafer technology and sensor design, prototype detector modules are being built and qualified for operation in the high radiation environment of LHC.
The projects is supported by BMBF as BMBF-Projekt 05H21GUCC9: "Verbundprojekt 05H2021 - Fortentwicklung des CMS-Experiments zum Einsatz am HL-LHC: Entwicklung und Bau des Pixel-Detektors für den Phase-2-Upgrade bei CMS"
