Project200: Operating in MORPURGO's 1.6 T field

The MADMAX team from Hamburg, together with colleagues from MPP Munich and CPPM Marseille, is back at CERN: after the successful tests of Project200, the pre-prototype for the MADMAX booster, at cryogenic conditions at the CERN Cryolab, they now went to another challenging environment: inside the 1.6 T magnetic field of CERN's MORPURGO magnet in the North Area.

The dielectric sapphire disk could be moved with its three piezo-electric actuators and laser interferometer feedback in the magnetic field without problems, which is an important milestone for the MADMAX project. The system with all its electronics even survived a quench of the magnet!

First testbeam of the year

Last week we had our first testbeam of the year. This time, we took data in area T24 of the DESY II test beam facility to test Low Gain Avalanch Diodes (LGADs) at different voltages and under different beam incidence angles.

Saiva Huck defended her thesis on "From the efficient trapping and accumulation of cooled antiprotons towards the formation of a pulsed beam of antihydrogen atoms".
