Souvenirs of summer with BBQ and games
28 August 2025
On thursday, august 28 our group decided to have the annual summer party with BBQ, games and even the sun showed up!
The event welcomed an international crowd: students and researchers from Germany, India, Sweden, Taiwan, Italy, Greece, China, and many more—representing the global language of science. Whether first-year bachelor’s students, lab engineers, PhD candidates, or postdocs, everyone came together to celebrate not just their work, but the people behind it. The buffet reflected the diversity: Spicy and delicious homemade indian cottage cheese, asian cucumber salad, couscous salad, vegan Naan bread, vegetarian Burgers and German Wurst, pasta and potatoe salad, and of course the famous italian saussage (made of lots of delicous chocolate).
One of the evening's highlights was the MEGA-Challenge—a playful but intense competition combining physics, teamwork, and creativity. Participants competed with their "Smarties", trying to "solve problems in their team" when they were "the team having problems" in events like cornhole throwing, building the tallest LEGO tower, and finally in “Pyramid Speed”, where players tested structural tricks to build and rebuild a stable pyramid in record time. The rules were simple: use your brain, laugh a lot, and don’t forget the laws of physics. In the end the team around Annika and her "Smarties" won this year's Challenge so she could proudly take her victory to her new home outside of Hamburg and outside from our group. So we ended this joyful summer party with a farewell to a truly enjoyable person, an always helpful colleague and a very smart researcher wishing her all the best for her future career and life!
