MADMAX Cryostat being commissioned in SHELL

The MADMAX Cryostat is currently being commissioned inside the shielded lab SHELL and is being prepared for its first cooldown as part of the Site Acceptance Test. In the last two weeks, first the cryostat was brought into the lab and the tower containing the cryogenic systems was mounted on top of the main vessel, both was done with the big help of DESY´s MEA5 group. Following that, a team of the cryostat´s manufacturer, Bilfinger Nuclear & Energy Transition GmbH, came last week to perform the final assembly together with us. Since last week Wednesday the vacuum pumps are running and the pressures have already reached the target values and are still decreasing. Next will be the warm acceptance tests (leak tests, test of the temperature sensors etc.), soon to be followed by the first cooldown of the system.
