Structure and Dynamics of Photoreceptor Proteins (Fernando Rodriguez Diaz, Hyein Hwang)
This project is about UV-absorbing opsins, as found in the retina of migrating birds and insects. The excited-state dynamics in these systems has been much less investigated as their for the visual rhodopsins in vertabrates (e.g., bovine).
Excited-State Dynamics in Metal Complexes (Hyein Hwang, Fernando Rodriguez Diaz)
We investigate emergent ultrafast processes that determine the elementary steps in chemical reactivity leading to functional systems in solar energy conversion, information storage, and redox-driven catalysis.
We study several transition metal compounds containing as central atoms: Ni, Fe, and Cu.
Aqueous Solvation Dynamics (Zhangatay Nurekeyev, Hyein Hwang)
This project aims to deliver a first measurement of the dynamic solvation shell response around a reacting solute.
