Accelerator science
Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Hillert
Welcome to the Accelerator Science Research Group, which carries out research and development for particle accelerators in close cooperation with DESY at the Institute for Experimental Physics.
Our main focus are the so-called „conventional” accelerators used in particle physics and for the examination of condensed matter, such as synchrotrons, storage rings, and linear accelerators being deployed as colliders, synchrotron radiation sources, and free electron lasers (FELs).
Aside from the experimental and theoretical investigation of acceleration processes, beam generation, beam dynamics, and beam diagnostics, the group also works on the development of novel and innovative technologies.
A current focus is the improvement of superconducting acceleration technology as well as the generation of coherent X-ray radiation at FELs, using modern seeding processes.
