What happend on this sunny thursday afternoon on the parking space infront of IEXP-building? Innovative experiments could be observed and strange noises - like laughter - were heard from some 20 people busy competing each other with unseen objects. Why didn't we read about it in science magazines? It was the "Total Challenge", fiercefully fought of members of Erikas detector lab group. What started as a relaxed and tasty summer party with a vegetarian BBQ, was turned into a dynamic tournament by some eager students, doctors and guests visiting from Cern. Team "Team" and Team "Challenge" fought hard, but always laughing, to win points in games as "bottle flip", "cup pyramid" and in the end "arm wrestling". The team with most accuracy, balance and luck could win.
Isn't this always the case in science as well?
But that was not the only extraordinary event happening this day: We could say congratulations to Wolfgang Weppner for happily entering into retirement. He had been our truly much respected and valued janitor for many years and we are very thankful for all big and small tasks that he helped us out with! To celebrate it he was given a cake with lots of tasty mice in white, blue and pink, to sweeten up some moments in his free-time that he can enjoy from now on.
Cheers to you, Wolfgang!
