Current Bachelor/Master positions
NEW --- Booster amplifier for a 100kHz fs laser system --- NEW
For a commercial fs-laser system providing 300fs pulses with 4W power at a repetition rate of 100kHz an amplifier system boosting the output energy up to 40 W is to be set up. Core part of this work is to implement a stretcher-compressor unit realizing a chirped-pulse-amplification (CPA) unit around the booster for safe amplification of the original pulses. Apart from setting up the CPA stage, a careful analysis and design optimization of the stretcher and compressor needs to be carried out using optical simulation software.
This work suits very well for a master thesis but may be also carried out in part as a bachelor thesis.
Characterization and optimization of a Ti:Sapphire laser beam profile
This project aims at the optimization of the spatial properties of ultrashort laser pulses generated in a Ti:Sapphire laser system. Applying a recently proposed simple experimental approach we intend to set up a novel type of spatial filter for improving the wave front of the laser pulses.
The work includes a careful characterization of the current and – after installation of the new spatial filter – the resulting wave fronts.

Pump-probe experiments using DUV and VUV radiation
Based on an industrial laser system we operate a table-top light source generating ultrashort light pulses at 85nm wavelength by frequency conversion of the fourth harmonic (257nm) of the laser fundamental in a static gas cell. Currently an optical setup exists that transports the DUV radiation to the interaction region, where pump-probe studies on gaseous samples will be carried out in a next step. For this, an electron and/or ion detector for the detection of the particles produced by the laser-matter interaction needs to be set up.
This project can be carried out within the scope of a Bachelor or Master thesis.
