Videoseminar – Hands On

Moving images are a stock feature of science communication – and they are becoming ever more important, not least for one’s reputation and career. Online platforms and specialist journals alike increasingly draw on cinematic elements, and a clip often determines whether a submission to a scientific publication is successful. During the two-day video seminar, participants acquire the core knowledge required for the right production method to fulfil their demands and goals. What is crucial for success is good planning, composition and execution. They will develop ideas on good ways of conveying topics in images and gain insights into the basic principles of visual storytelling. In practical sessions, they will learn how to film presentable video sequences on a smartphone. In addition, they will be introduced to the criteria for good science films. Participants will learn to cut their own film sequences, add sound and evaluate them according to a set of criteria.

- fundamentals of communication
- basic rules of image composition and visual storytelling
