Telescopes (Research and Teaching)

Hamburger Observatory operates several optical and radio telescopes for research and teaching purposes. Only some of them are located in Bergedorf (the image shows an air photograph of the observatory), namely the Oskar-Lühning Telescope (OLT), the Small Radio Telescope (KRT3), and several smaller optical telescopes. The historical telescopes are still in use for public outreach.
North of Hamburg, in Norderstedt, a station of the Europe-wide LOFAR interferometer is located. The workhorses of optical observations are the TIGRE telescope in Guanajato/Mexico and the Planet Transit Survey Telescope (PTST) in Spain. All these telescopes are operated semi-automatically and are remotely controlled.
